The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has set a date for the party’s presidential and parliamentary candidates to face off against the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The decision was made by the party’s Council of Elders following a crunch meeting on Friday, December 23, 2022, at the Alisa Hotel in Accra according to sources.
The party plans to hold presidential primaries in November 2023, followed by parliamentary primaries in January 2024 in areas where the party currently holds parliamentary incumbency.
The party, however, was unable to reach an agreement on a date for primaries in NDC-held constituencies, which will take place before the Presidential primaries.
Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Vice President, Trade Minister Alan Kojo Kyerematen, Agriculture Minister Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, Former Minister of State and serving MP Bryan Acheampong, MP for Assin North Kennedy Agyapong, MP for Essikado Joe Ghartey, and former Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko are among those vying for the top position in the New Patriotic Party.
